Natural Deodorant from Young Living

Did you know there is a difference between antiperspirants and deodorants?  I never really put much thought behind it.  I figured if you put it under your arms it was going to do it’s job. Turns out there is a big difference.

Deodorants are what makes you smell nice – summer rain, spring breeze, fresh scent etc.  They help to neutralize the odor but do not offer any wetness control.

Antiperspirants typically contain aluminum in some form and is what prevents your underarms from sweating.  While that may sound like a good thing, there are questions about how dangerous that aluminum can be and whether or not there is a link to breast cancer.  The National Cancer Institute has addressed this question and stated this:

Because studies of antiperspirants and deodorants and breast cancer have provided conflicting results, additional research is needed to investigate this relationship and other factors that may be involved.

So the aluminum in my antiperspirant may or may cause breast cancer.  I’m not exactly comfortable with that.  In addition, some brands out there contain Triclosan, Parabens and Talc – all of which have received an incredible amount of bad press about health concerns lately.

Besides that, our bodies were designed this way for a reason.  We were DESIGNED to sweat  as a cooling mechanism.  The aluminum in the antiperspirant clogs the pores under my arms and interrupts that natural process.  So that’s why I decided to try Young Living’s deodorants.

Young Living’s AromaGuard® Mountain Mint™ deodorant and AromaGuard® Meadow Mist™ deodorant are natural deodorants that are an aluminum-free alternative to commercial products.  They mostly contain the natural skin-soothing properties of coconut oil, beeswax, and vitamin E and are infused with essential oils.

Do my armpits get wet?  Yes, yes they do.  But, like anything else, you get used to it and it becomes the new normal.

Do I have more body odor?  Surprisingly no.  The sweat and the odor are actually 2 different things.  The deodorant takes care of the odor.

Does it leave a white residue on my clothes?  Nope.

Is Young Living deodorant right for you? I don’t know.  It depends on many things including your body chemistry, your diet and how much you sweat.  If you are concerned about what goes on under your arms, then I think it’s worth a try.  Just give it time.  Give it at least a couple of weeks so that you body AND your mindset can adapt.
