Basil essential oil

Basil essential oil

(Ocimum basilicum)

topical aromatic

Basil essential oil is used aromatically and topically while Basil Vitality essential oil is a dietary supplement and therefore can be ingested.

Basil has a warm, spicy, yet herbal aroma that is very calming. Basil provides great benefits to both the mind and body due to its high linalool content, making it an ideal application to promote relaxation when diffused or applied to the temples and back of the neck. Basil is cooling to the skin when mixed with a carrier oil. When diffused, Basil helps promote focus and alertness.

Basil is a “hot” oil which means you should dilute it before applying directly to the skin.  Start with a 1:1 ratio and start slowly to avoid potential skin irritation.

Gratitude™ essential oil blend

Gratitude™ essential oil blend

Foster a grateful attitude and embrace the blessings in your life. The uplifting aroma of Gratitude™ invites a feeling of emotional and spiritual progress.

When we focus on things that we are grateful for there is less room for the things that stress us.

gratitude

I had an opportunity to visit the Corrie ten Boom house in Haarlem, Netherlands and will never forget a story I heard about thankfulness.  When Corrie and her sister were in a Concentration camp, Corrie Ten Boom prayed to God and thanked him for the fleas and lice that plagued the camp.  And as we wonder why on earth anyone would be thankful for fleas, we learn that because of the fleas the guards stayed out of their barracks and allowed them the freedom to practice their bible studies.  How inspirational to be thankful in the face of so much adversity!   For more about Corrie Ten Boom, read her book “The Hiding Place”.

How to use: For aromatic or topical use.  Diffuse, inhale, or add to bath water.  Apply to crown of head, back of neck, behind ears or inside wrists.  Possible skin sensitivity.

Here are some ways to practice gratitude:

  1. Gratitude Journal: Spending five minutes writing down 3-5 things that you are grateful for each day will help shift your focus from what may not be working well to the many positive things in your life. This exercise can shift energy away from negative thoughts and call to mind positive experiences. Diffuse or topically apply Gratitude to enhance feelings of strength and increase your sense of gratitude.
  2. When meditating, ask yourself 3 questions: What have I received from______?  What have I given to______? What troubles and difficulty have I caused?  This method of self-reflection is called Naikan.
  3. Diffuse while reciting prayers of gratitude.
  4. Tell someone you appreciate them.  We often get so busy that we forget to tell others how important they are to us.  This exercise can foster an atmosphere of thankfulness.
  5. Add a drop of Gratitude to thank you notes!
  6. Diffuse while practicing mindfulness.  Mindfulness is stopping the glorification of busy.  Don’t look at your smartphone while eating.  Instead focus on the food you are putting in your mouth.  The temperature of the food, the texture, the tastes. When you go for a walk notice the clouds, the smells, the shapes of the leaves on the trees.
  7. Vow not to complain, criticize or gossip for a day.
  8. Avoid comparing yourself to other people.  This is only an exercise in frustration.  There will always be someone richer, more successful, or  more attractive.  Comparison truly is the thief of joy.
  9. Don’t avoid the negative.  Being grateful does not mean shying away from bad things that happen to you.  It means that when you think of a bad time, use that experience to learn and to see how far you’ve come.  It is all a part of your journey.
