Roman and German
Roman chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile) has a warm, sweet, herbaceous scent that is relaxing and calming for both mind and body. Its gentleness makes it especially valuable for restless children. Soothing to all types of skin, it is used extensively in Europe in skin preparations. Roman chamomile is also beneficial when added to massage oil for a soothing effect after exercise.* Roman chamomile was one of the Saxons’ nine sacred herbs.
Similarly, German chamomile (Matricaria recutita) has a calming aroma that helps create feelings of peace and patience. This oil can be applied neat or as part of massage to desired areas.
Although Roman and German Chamomile belong to different species, they are used for similar purposes. Both are used to promote a calming atmosphere and to support skin health*.
- Calming: Dilute and use topically or diffuse to promote a calming atmosphere
- Sleep: To support restful sleep, diffuse or dilute and use Chamomile topically. Can also mix with epsom salt and add to warm water to create a relaxing bath.
- Skin Health: Use in a tonic or ointment as part of your skin care regime
- Massage: German Chamomile is a better agent to use as part of your massage regiment than Roman Chamomile due to it’s higher chamazulene count.
