Comedogenic Ratings

When we use oils such as Frankincense or Lavender for skin health, we should be mindful of which carrier oil you are using so you don’t negate the beneficial effects of the oils.  Below is a list compiled from a fairly well quoted study from the Journal of Society of Cosmetic Chemists.  The journal article was published in 1989 and uses rabbit ears to determine the comedogenicity and irritant factor of a number of different products.  Poor bunnies :(.

Also know that in my research there are a few people who suggest that this article is not an accurate representation of comedogenicity, as results of the test bore little resemblance to actual results.  As always, do your research and come to your own conclusions.  Try a couple of different oils and choose the one that works best for you.  Carrier oils are relatively cheap and easily accessible on amazon, in health food stores and even in your neighborhood grocery store.  For myself, organic coconut oil wasn’t my favorite.  I switched to Jojoba oil and have much better luck.
